Collection: REGULATORS

Regulators are a part of our SCUBA system that enable us to breathe underwater by delivering air supply to us at a breathable pressure. They are made up of two main components with two main design formats.

First Stage - The first stage is designed to take air from the scuba cylinder at high pressure and reduce it down to an intermediate pressure. The regulator can connect to the tank via either a DIN or Yoke fitting.

Second Stage - The function of the second stage is to deliver gas to the diver at a breathable rate no matter the ambient pressure. A standard setup will include two second stages a primary that the diver breathes off and a secondary, alternate or occy (octopus) for redundancy.

Further considerations into your regulator will be the material it is made from in terms of longevity and weight, balanced or unbalanced and sealed or not sealed first stages.

Balanced - A balanced first stage will provide consistent breathing regardless of depth or cylinder pressure.

Unbalanced - An unbalanced first stage will have an increase in work of breathing with increased depth or low tank pressure however modern regulators will perform very well and may have lower annual service costs.

Environmentally Sealed - this is a way of sealing the first stage so that no water interacts with any of the components. When we inhale air movement through the regulator causes cooling, in cold waters this cooling effect combined with a potential free flow could cause the first stage to freeze.

Hose Configuration - There are a few ways to have your regulator hoses configures, often a hose kit is all you need to change the way your regulators are able to be used, types of diving like Cave or Advanced Wreck diving typically use a configuration that reduces hose snags and expand the functionality.
