DESCRIPTION
This SMB (submersible marker buoy) is 1.83m tall and designed to carry with the diver and at a stage during the ascent it is deployed using a spool to maintain control once it reaches the surface and marks where the diver(s) are to the boat.
The larger design is ideal for boat diving where you may experience some swell and rougher conditions giving the boat and crew a larger SMB to see in challenging conditions whereas a smaller 1m SMB would be almost invisible.
The pack contains a multi use 1.8m SMB, 30m spool with high quality OMS Double Ender and a convenient pouch that can be attached to most BCD's
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
- 2 bands of SOLAS Tape at top of SMB
- Sturdy construction with sealed seams
- Oral inflator
- LP hose inflator point
- Duckbill design to allow inflation with 2nd stage regulator
- Over pressure valve to prevent rupture if over inflated
- Different colours available
Using an SMB can be daunting for the first time and while most divers are taught this skill during their Open Water Diver course if not practiced it can fade like most skills, this is a great skill to practice shallow with a buddy to keep an eye on you and offer suggestions as to technique, we can and do arrange sessions focused on the specific skills and different ways to inflate the SMB
When diving in Victoria it is mandatory to carry one per diver, it's not suitable to share one as it will not meet the requirements of the Victorian Code Of Practice for local diving from a charter vessel. Knowing that the SMB is the primary way you will be located in an emergency make sure you have one designed for the area and style of diving you will be participating in. Having a small SMB might seem convenient until you are relying on being spotted by the boat in fading light conditions. It is common to have a small SMB to practice with but a larger more visible SMB to dive with.
