Collection: COMPUTERS
Modern technology means that we no longer need to sit down with a set of tables to plan out our dives and no decompression limits prior to hitting the water. Dive computers provide current information to the diver and in many cases increase safety. Computers track your exposure underwater including depth and time to calculate the theoretical amount of nitrogen in the body.
Computers can come in two styles being wrist mount or console. The benefit of a wrist mount computer is quick referencing whereas console style means it is connected to your regulator set and won't be left behind. Certain information will be standard across all computers with additional features also available in other models.
Common information;
- Depth - current and maximum depth reached throughout the dive
- Time - accruing dive time underwater
- NDL - allowable remaining dive time based on depth, time underwater and any previous dives
- Temperature - current ambient temperature
- Ascent rate - speed at which diver is moving towards the surface
- Safety Stop - a stop completed at 5m to allow excess nitrogen to be eliminated from the body
- Surface Interval - time spent on the surface since the last dive was completed
- Alarms - depth, dive time, ascent rate, safety stop timer
- Nitrox programmable - most current models of dive computers will be compatible with Nitrox mixes, some allowing multiple gases to be programmed for decompression dives.
Additional Features;
- Algorithm - different models will use different algorithms which are based on the set of tables the formulas originate from
- Air integration - console computers may be connected via a high pressure hose allowing digital integration of air supply whereas others will use a Bluetooth device connected to the first stage transmitting a digital reading to the computer
- Computer downloadable - a number of computers can be downloaded to PC or your phone via cable or Bluetooth options allowing you to keep a digital log of your diving history.
- Surf GF - a feature telling you your level of risk if you made a direct ascent to the surface displayed as a percentage
- GF99 - a feature that tells you the theoretical tissue tension of the leading tissue compartment, displayed as a percentage, these advanced features gives the diver a snapshot of current decompression risk and efficiency
